Terms & Conditions – Tailslide Surf House

Welcome to Tailslide Surf House. By booking your stay or surf coaching experience with us in Madiha, Sri Lanka, you are entering into an agreement that protects both you as a guest and us as your hosts.

These Terms & Conditions make everything clear—from how bookings and payments work, to cancellations, insurance, safety, and your responsibilities during your stay. They’re not designed to scare you off, but to ensure there are no surprises and your retreat runs smoothly.

By confirming your booking with us, you agree to the Terms & Conditions outlined below. Please read them carefully before reserving your place.

1. Booking & Payments


  • A 20% non-refundable deposit is required at the time of booking.

  • Your booking is confirmed only once the deposit has been received.

  • The remaining balance is payable on arrival at the retreat.

  • Bookings are personal and cannot be transferred without written consent.

2. Minimum Stay


  • Surf Retreat Packages: Minimum stay of 7 days / 6 nights (5 nights outside peak season, subject to availability).

  • Accommodation-Only Bookings: Minimum stay of 3 nights.

Long stays (3+ weeks) are eligible for discounted rates.

3. Cancellations


  • Deposits are non-refundable.
  • Cancellations made more than 30 days before arrival: deposit may be transferred to a future booking within 12 months.
  • Cancellations made within 30 days of arrival: deposit is forfeited.
  • Cancellations made within 5 days of arrival: the full balance may be charged.
  • No-shows or early departures are charged in full.
  • Force majeure (e.g., flight cancellations, government restrictions, natural events): we will do our best to reschedule dates at no extra cost.

⚠️ All cancellations must be made in writing via email. WhatsApp or verbal cancellations are not accepted.

4. Travel & Insurance


  • Guests must hold valid travel and medical insurance covering surfing, water sports, medical emergencies, accidents, and trip cancellations.
  • Proof of insurance may be requested before or upon arrival.
  • Tailslide Surf House is not responsible for delays, cancellations, or disruptions caused by airlines, weather, or third-party providers.

Optional Insurance:

  • Cancellation Insurance (€50 per person): Cancel for any reason until check-in day, no doctor’s note required. Must be purchased at booking.

Board Insurance (€60): Covers accidental board damage (dings, dents, snapped boards) for up to three weeks. Does not cover lost parts—replacement must be paid by the guest.

5. Health, Safety & Surf Risk


  • Surfing carries inherent risks, including injury or accident.
  • By booking, you acknowledge these risks and agree to follow coach guidance at all times.
  • Guests must be able to swim confidently and disclose any relevant health issues.

Tailslide Surf House is not liable for injuries, medical costs, or loss of personal belongings.

6. Accommodation & Facilities


  • Guests must respect the property, staff, fellow guests, and the local community.
  • Damage to property or equipment may result in charges for repair or replacement.
  • Illegal activities, disruptive behavior, or disrespectful conduct will not be tolerated and may result in termination of your stay without refund.

7. Changes to Schedule


  • Surf schedules depend on tides, swell, and weather. We may adjust timings for safety and quality.
  • Retreat plans are non-refundable if adjusted due to ocean conditions.
  • If circumstances beyond our control (weather, natural disasters, pandemics, etc.) affect your booking, we will do our best to reschedule dates or provide credits.

8. Discounts


  • Non-surfing partners: 30% discount off standard retreat rate (includes meals, accommodation, and facilities; surf coaching excluded).
  • Long stays (3+ weeks): eligible for discounted rates.
  • Repeat guests: always receive a loyalty discount.
  • Discounts cannot be combined unless stated.

9. Force Majeure

Tailslide Surf House is not liable for failure to perform obligations due to events beyond our reasonable control, including but not limited to natural disasters, strikes, government restrictions, pandemics, or travel disruptions.

10. Governing Law

These Terms & Conditions are governed by the laws of Sri Lanka. Any disputes shall be resolved in the courts of Sri Lanka.
